Compliance

UK Tax Compliance for Expatriates

We handle your UK tax filings accurately and on time, freeing you to focus on what matters, with complete confidence that your HMRC obligations are met.

UK tax compliance for expatriates is not straightforward. Your return may need to cover UK rental income, overseas employment income, foreign dividends, capital gains on multiple assets, pension contributions, and the correct application of double taxation agreements, all filed within strict HMRC deadlines.

Self Assessment for Expatriates

The UK Self Assessment tax return (SA100) must be filed by 31 January following the end of the tax year. Expatriates typically need to complete supplementary pages covering: residence status (SA109), foreign income (SA106), UK property income (SA105), and capital gains (SA108). We prepare your return, optimise all available reliefs and allowances, and file directly with HMRC on your behalf.

Capital Gains Tax Reporting

Capital gains must be reported to HMRC whether through your annual Self Assessment return or, for UK residential property sales, through a separate 60-day report. We calculate gains net of available reliefs (including private residence relief, lettings relief, and annual exempt amount), prepare the reporting, and ensure you pay only what is legally due.

HMRC Enquiries and Compliance Checks

HMRC has up to four years to open an enquiry into a Self Assessment return (or up to 20 years where fraudulent behaviour is alleged). If you receive a nudge letter, a compliance check notice, or a formal Section 9A enquiry, we manage the process on your behalf, preparing responses, negotiating with HMRC, and protecting your interests throughout.

Making Tax Digital

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax Self Assessment (ITSA) is being phased in from April 2026 for self-employed individuals and landlords with income above £50,000. This requires quarterly digital submissions of income and expenses to HMRC. We are fully prepared for MTD and can help you transition to compliant digital record-keeping now.
